Gudgeon pin bosses

These must be connected to the piston crown in such a way that the loads which result from gas pressure are transmitted from crown to gudgeon pin without any possibility of distortion of the piston. The bosses are usually connected directly to the crown by substantial struts or thick webs.

It is important that the gudgeon-pin holes should be bored accurately and with an extremely fine surface finish.
